The Big Dog Electronic Choke Actuator is a remotely actuated choke operated by a touchscreen computer on 220 single-phase power. The Big Dog is environmentally friendly due to the very nature of its electronic actuator system, which eliminates any requirement for hydraulic hoses. The actuator does not require any air supply enabling it to avoid standard operating problems inherent with hydraulically actuated chokes operating in harsh winter conditions. The Big Dog has been engineered such that it is capable of handling any load levels it is subjected to in any oil and gas drilling operation. The Big Dog can be entirely operated and controlled through a single twisted cable communicating via Modbus RS-485 standard communication protocol. The system utilizes hardened steel for all internal gears and components in the mechanical portion of the actuator. Competitive products in the field are comprised of lower grade steel and in some cases plastic components.
